Rogers Pass Touring

Rogers Pass is a name synonymous with deep pow and long descents. There’s an unparalleled amount of soft snow, a longer than usual season and majestic mountains and glaciers, all of which makes this area one of the best backcountry ski spots in the world. The Pass has a huge amount of ski potential, but it’s not without its risks. The area is prone to avalanches, as is evidenced by the frequent highway closures, so you will want one of our knowledgeable ACMG certified guides to show you the way to safely enjoy in this backcountry skiing wonderland.

Location & Access:

Rogers Pass is found in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia between the small mountain towns of Golden and Revelstoke. The skiing is accessed off the Trans-Canada highway making access quite easy, in a way. There is a Winter Permit System in affect in the area because of the extensive avalanche control system used to protect the highway and railway. It's actually the world’s largest mobile avalanche control program. These permits are used to ensure that ski tourers and splitboarders don't enter areas where avalanche control is planned. But not to worry, you guide will navigate this system for you.

Popular Tours:

The Rogers Pass Backcountry area has really gained in popularity due to the easy access, great snow and amazing skiing. Luckily, it's a huge place with almost unlimited ski potential. There's always the option to try something a little off the beaten path or ski one of the ultra-classic routes like:

  • Tupper Traverse
  • Balu Pass
  • Illecillewaet Glacier
  • Little Sifton Traverse
  • Forever Young Couloir

Who’s this trip for:

From intermediate to advanced skiers and split boarders we can find the terrain and trip to match. A reasonably level of fitness is needed but no backcountry or avalanche experience necessary. Let us show you the secret backcountry power stashes and amazing big mountain lines that only the locals know about!

What if Rogers Pass is Closed?

Not to worry, there are some other great areas to ski that are accessible even when the highway is closed including some amazing backcountry skiing that's accessed using RMR's ski lifts, heli accessed skiing, Mount Revelstoke park, etc.

Waiver & Risk Management:

As you know, outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, crevasses, rockfall, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in one of our courses or trips.
