Next Trip:
Leaving Aug 25 2025 from $4,999.00Patagonia Backcountry
This August and September we’re headed back into the Patagonia Backcountry for some pow skiing! We will be exploring some of the best skiing that Argentina & Chile have to offer so take a break from the dog days of summer and join us in exploring some amazing Patagonia pow, wine, micro-brew and BBQ.
The Zone:
The Bariloche area, in the heart of Argentina’s lake district, is located near the spine of the Andes, not far from the Chile border. This area is also one of Argentina’s ski meccas with amazing backcountry huts as well as lift assisted ski touring. From there a drive along Patagonia's Powder Highway takes us from the amazing peaks and resorts of the Bariloche region past numerous ski resorts including Cerro Catedral and Cerro Bayo, and into Chile to find more resorts like Antillana, not to mention the amazing volcano's that are just begging to be skied! If you're looking for the best snow and weather in Patagonia then this is the zone!
The Plan for 2025's Patagonia Backcountry Trip:
This year we're offering an amazing 10-day trip that explores a bunch of the different areas of the Patagonia Backcountry in both Argentina and Chile. We start in Bariloche on the east slopes of the Andes, after a few days in that area we head north to Cerro Bayo before going west into Chile and the west slopes of the Andes before turning south again in a broad horseshoe. This allows us to hit some amazing mountains and volcanos while exploring what is arguably the best snow that Patagonia has to offer. Here's the rough day-to-day breakdown but of course we have more detail available below under the itinerary tab:
- Day 1: Meet in Bariloche, Check into Hotel
- Day 2: Ski to the backcountry off the Catedral Ski Hill
- Day 3: Explore Tronador area
- Day 4: More backcountry off Catedral into the Frey area
- Day 5: Drive to Cerro Bayo and ski some slack country from Cerro Bayo
- Day 6: Backcountry skiing off Cerro Bayo

2025 Trip Itinerary:
Day 1: The Skiing in Argentina trip will start in Bariloche after a short flight from Buenos Aires. We’ll pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. Once you’re settled in there will be time to explore town a little before we get together for dinner.
Day 2: We’ll head over to Cerro Catedral Ski Resort. From the top of the Alta Patagonia lift we’ll ski into the backcountry for an amazing day of ski touring around the sharp rocky spines of Patagonia before dropping back into the ski resort at the end of the day. From there it’s back to the hotel for some dinner, wine or micro-brewed beer.
Day 3: Weather permitting we will leave the hotel right after breakfast and drive around to Mt. Tronador, the highest peak in the area, and ski off the eastern flank, possibly having lunch at one of the alpine huts in the area. Once our legs are tired it’s back to the car and onto town for some more great food and wine.
Day 4: After checking out of the hotel we’re back on Cerro Catedral for a shorter day of touring before it’s time to move on to the next destination: Cerro Bayo, which is a few hours to the north. Once we arrive we’ll get checked into our hotel and then hit town for dinner.
Day 5: Ski some of the amazing slack country lines off this surprisingly quiet ski resort, circling back to the lifts when possible to maximize the vert for the day.
Day 6: Back at Cerro Bayo ski resort with the plan to ski tour off the top of the ski lifts and explore the peaks behind the resort for some pristine pow.
Day 7: Up early for a few hours driving across the border to the Chilean side of the Andes and the amazing slopes of Cerro Antillanca. This small resort is built on a set of twin volcanos and is renown for it’s amazing powder skiing. After arriving and getting checked into our hotel we’ll head up skiing for the rest of the day exploring both on hill and some slack country.
Day 8: Time to explore the Antillanca zone! We’ll take the lifts up to get above treeline and then start ski touring. If the weather is cooperating the volcano Casablanca is the destination of choice.
Day 9: We hit the road again, this time heading south to Osorno Ski Resort located on the side of the classic conical volcano Osorno. The rest of the day is spent exploring this new zone, skiing some of the amazing alpine terrain with views of the twin lakes located at the base of the volcano.
Day 10: Now that we’re acclimatized we’ll make a push for the summit of the Osorno Volcano if weather allows. The summit of this 2660m volcano offers 360 degree views of the Andes Mountains including Casablanca where we just were and Tronadore which is located just outside Bariloche.
Day 11: Head back to the Bariloche airport (4.5 hrs +/-) to catch a flight back to Buenos Aires.
Day 12: Fly on home from BA
