Using the remote Journeyman Lodge as a home-base, this fully guided and catered ski touring package has it all: amazing skiing, great food and luxurious accommodation! The Journeyman Lodge is found in the heart of British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, deep in the Upper Callaghan Basin at 4,500′ (1,370m) above sea level. Accessed by Snowcat, it offers many of the comforts of home in a pristine skiers paradise including great family style meals, a warm lodge and a wood fired sauna.
The Skiing:
With 3,500 Hectares of amazing skiing just outside the door the Callaghan has limitless potential. From majestic old growth forests to high alpine glaciers there’s great skiing for every ability and fitness level. Each day after breakfast skis are put on at the front door and you will follow your ACMG certified guides into mountains. With 2 guides and, on some trips, a professional photographer there will be options for longer or shorter days depending on fitness and how people are feeling.
The Accommodation:
Journeyman Lodge has a number of different rooms available:
- Nook Queen: Very cozy (small) room with a queen bed
- Nook Twin: Very cozy (small) room with two twin beds
- Standard Queen: Nice room with a view and a queen bed
- Standard Twin: Nice room with a view and two twin beds
- Superior Room: Nice room with a small balcony and ensuite and a queen bed
Lodge Based AST 2 (Dec 8-12):
For December 2023 we're bringing back our Lodge Based AST 2! This 5-day all-inclusive program includes a snowcat ride up to the beautiful Journeyman Lodge in the upper Callaghan valley, accommodation and meals in addition to the AST 2 materials. Two evenings will be spent covering the classroom based AST material while the days will be spent ski touring from the door while learning about the snowpack and developing a solid decision making framework for that all important go-no-go call. If you want an all immersive AST 2 with a whipping 5 field days and a huge amount of skiing then this is it!

- Journeyman Lodge does not permit pets inside the facility.
- An adventure to a backcountry lodge is not for the faint of heart! While an eager, ready-for-the-challenge attitude is your first step to success, please ensure you get acquainted with the details of this adventure and prepare your body, gear, and attire well ahead of the trip. If you have any physical/medical concerns, consult a medical professional to address them. Good preparation will maximize your enjoyment of this adventure!
- Accommodation floors will be quiet after 10pm. The 10pm lights-out schedule is a guideline for responsible behaviour and respect normally accorded to a healthy work environment. Callaghan Country has a has a zero-tolerance policy in which it will refuse to admit or refuse service or accommodation in the lodge, or may remove a person who, while on the premises acts in an obviously intoxicated or disorderly manner, destroys or threatens to destroy property, uses aggressive language or otherwise threatening tone to staff or causes or threatens to cause a public disturbance.
- Our lodge is a smoke-free establishment (this includes ‘vaping’); no smoking in the building or within 50′ of windows or exterior doors.
- Callaghan Country is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen personal items. We will make a reasonable effort to contact the guest if an item is left in the guest’s room after the guest has checked-out. Item(s) will be placed in a secured location at the Alexander Falls Touring Centre for up to 2 weeks after departure. Once the initial 2-week period has elapsed, the items(s) will be moved to a general ‘Lost & Found’ bin accessible to the public. We will not ‘deliver’ or ‘ship’ any lost & found items, and it is the responsibility of the guest to either personally pick up their items or arrange pickup. Any items in the Lost Found, which are not claimed within the winter operating season, will be donated to a local charity or discarded.
Arrival Day:
- 8:15am: Meet at the Journeyman Lodge Staging Area.
- 10:30am: Snowcat ride into the Lodge.
- 11:30am: Drop our luggage off at the Lodge & head out touring for the afternoon.
- 4:30pm: Back at the Lodge for Apres, Sauna and some R&R.
- 7:00pm: Dinner.
- 10:00pm: Lights out.
Ski Days:
- 7:30am: Breakfast (coffee is available earlier).
- 9:00am: Head out the door for a day of ski touring.
- 4:30pm: Back at the Lodge for some Apres and maybe a sauna.
- 7:00pm: Dinner.
- 10:00pm: Lights out.
Departure Day:
- 7:30am: Breakfast (coffee is available earlier).
- 8:30am: Grab a few quick ski laps.
- 1:00pm: Back at the Lodge to pack up.
- 2:00pm: Catch the shuttle back to the parking lot.
