The Tantalus Ski Touring trips starts with a quick helicopter flight from the Squamish Airport to deposit you at the picturesque Jim Haberl Hut in the heart of the Tantalus Range. Situated in the Serratus-Dione Col at an elevation of 2,030 metres it’s the perfect base camp for exploring the amazing ski touring and mountaineering objectives in the area. These include Mt. Dione, Serratus and Alpha, all of which are visible from the Tantalus lookout on the Sea-to-Sky highway. Even better, after we ski for a few days out of the Haberl Hut tagging some local peaks with the Howe Sound at our feet we can end the trip at the Tantalus Hut and have the heli bump us back up to collect our gear!
We run numerous multi-day Tantalus ski touring trips every year starting in March as that's when the Haberl Hut opens for the season. Variations of the trip can include a traverse of the range or a steeps specific trip.
The Tantalus Range offers a wide variety of ski touring and ski mountaineering objectives from gentle glacier runs to steep couloirs and fluted faces all surrounded by picturesque granite peaks and glaciers. If this trip, as outlined, isn't quite what your looking for allow us to tailor your Tantalus ski touring adventure to your specific goals and skill levels while taking you into some absolutely amazing areas in one of the most stunning ski venues in the world.
Weather: As with any trip that involves a helicopter, there is a chance that we are not able to fly into the hut on the first day or back out on the last day due to weather. Safety is a priority and so if we cannot fly safely the lift to/from the hut will be delayed or changed. If the weather limits us on the first day your guide will take you to another venue so the day’s not a lost cause. If it looks like we won’t be able to fly out on the last day you may end up departing the hut a bit ahead of schedule and of course, if time allows, we would organize a different ski venue. However, you will be required to secure your own accommodation for any nights not spent at the hut.
Waiver & Risk Management:
As you know, outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, crevasses, rockfall, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in one of our courses or trips.
