Heli Hiking

Heli Hiking and Mountaineering: No more long approaches through thick bush and clouds of mosquitos, no more busy parking lots and busier trails. Just grab 3 friends and hitch a ride on a helicopter with our experienced guides and explore some of the most beautiful alpine areas on the coast.

How it Works:

Our day starts with a helicopter flight into the alpine near Squamish or Whistler with one of our experienced ACMG certified guides. We can land at the toe of a glacier and explore the ancient ice, or land next to a deep blue lake for a hike through pristine alpine meadows before a quick swim. Or maybe summit a clean granite peak. The choice is yours! There are options for any fitness and experience level.

At around noon we'll stop for a break, eat a wholesome lunch and take in the views.

After a relaxing lunch there's time for some more exploring. Your guide will lead you along ridgelines, through alpine meadows, and to stunning viewpoints. Even better, there's no set place we need to be at the end of the day! Your guide will pick a spot that works for the helicopter and you can catch a ride back to civilization.

Something for Everyone:

We tailor our heli hiking packages to meet with the experience, fitness and desires of the group in an effort to create the ultimate trip experience. The only requirement is a good set of boots and a thirst for adventure.

Trip options include:

  • The Cruiser: This trip is ideal for anyone that wants to see some beautiful alpine terrain in a relaxed manner. Someone who prefers to meander slowly, take lots of photos long breaks along the way and is not in a hurry to get anywhere.
    • Pace: Slow with long breaks
    • Terrain: Easy ground
    • Distance: Short hikes
    • Elevation: Minimal elevation gain & loss
  • The Roamer: Roamers are looking for a full day of hiking, but at a relaxed pace. They are ok with climbing short climbs and beautiful traverses but like simpler terrain and longer breaks.
    • Pace: Moderate with long breaks
    • Terrain: Easy to moderate ground
    • Distance: Moderate
    • Elevation: Some elevation gain & loss
  • The Adventurer: Adventurers want something a bit more challenging and to get a little cardio on their trip, hiking full days in varied terrain. They can maintain a steady, moderate pace over reasonable distances, and likely already exercise multiple times per week. This group will typically navigate terrain with some elevation gain and loss, stopping for regular breaks along the way.
    • Pace: Moderate with regular short breaks
    • Terrain: Moderate terrain
    • Distance: Longer, full-day hike
    • Elevation: Moderate elevation gain & loss
    • Summit: Possible to summit a smaller peak
  • The Mountaineer: Mountaineers are more avid hikers that want to enjoy a strenuous, fast-paced hike or a more technical hike/scramble. They are already very physically active and want to hike full days, covering a lot of ground on their trip with lots of elevation gain and loss, stopping for shorter breaks along the way. Mountaineers will also have the option to get into more technical terrain such as glacier travel and 3rd class scrambling.
    • Pace: Fast with regular short breaks
    • Terrain: Varried terrain
    • Distance: Long, full-day hike
    • Elevation: Moderate to high elevation
    • Summit: Possible to summit a more technical peak

Groups:

We generally use an A-star helicopter which allows us to bring 4 hikers per guide so you will need a group of 4 for the trip at the quoted price. However, we can also accommodate 2-person groups upon request though there will be a surcharge. Larger groups, in increments of 4 are not a problem at all.

Waiver & Risk Management:

As you know, outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, crevasses, rockfall, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in one of our courses or trips.

  • 8:00am: Meet for a helicopter safety briefing & review of the plan for the day
  • 9:00am: Depart in the heli for the selected zone
  • 12:00pm: Lunch in the field
  • 4:00pm: Back at the hanger to share pics

Actual schedule may vary as determined by the guide, weather, etc.
