Stawamus Chief Hike: First, Second and Third Peak Loop

This variation of the beautiful Stawamus Chief hike will take you up all three of the peaks that make up the iconic massif, locally known as "The Chief". Towering over 700m above the waters of the Howe Sound it features amazing views of the surrounding mountains, some great trails with some short sections of technical and fun scrambling and while it is a short day is still considered a challenging trail. But not to worry, our guides will be right there to help should you need it.

Trip Details:

  • Start: Stawamus Parking Lot
  • End: Same as the Start
  • Length: 7.5 Km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 690 m
  • Time Required: 5-6 hrs

The Stawamus Chief hike is definitely a must-do route for any passionate hiker visiting the area. At 7 and a half kilometres, hiking Peak One, Two and Three together definitely gives hikers an amazing experience and the best views in the shortest distance. But despite being relatively short, this is not an easy hike. It involves several large stairway sections - similar to the iconic Grouse Grind but with even higher steps. It also includes several technical sections between each of the three peaks that are used to link them all together. These sections include a mixture of easy scrambling and via-ferrata type ladders that are typically used by climbers to access various parts of the Chief. But not to worry, we keep the ratio lower on this trip so that your guide can really help you through these sections by coaching, spotting and they can even put a rope on you if needed.

The combination of amazing views, multiple summits and short technical sections really makes this a memorable hike. We offer this trip to private groups of 1 to 4 people on a daily basis all summer. If you have more than 4 people that's fine, we'll can add another guide to the trip. Just let us know when you want to go and we'll set it up!
