Ski Mountaineering

Want to take your backcountry skiing or splitboarding to the next level? Big Mountains, Steeps, Peaks and Couloirs? Learn the skills to get after big peaks and objectives. Our 2 day Ski Mountaineering course is the program to take your backcountry skiing/split-boarding to the next level. Join one of our professionally certified guides to learn how to safely tackle that next line.

This course will focus on the required equipment and skills needed for ski mountaineering including understanding the alpine environment, whiteout navigation, route planning, steep snow climbing, cornice management, rappelling and of course and steep riding. It's ideal for individuals aspiring to learn the fundamental skills of snow, ice, and glacier climbing techniques, and the application of these skills toward the ascent and descent of major glaciated peaks. Our goal is to develop competent, self-reliant ski/split-mountaineers ready to tackle some of the bigger peaks and more committing lines here on the coast and other areas of BC or abroad. This course is truly an excellent foundation for any skier seeking independence in the alpine arena.

This course pairs well with our Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue course which covers everything you need to safely navigate complex glaciated terrain safely and to perform a rescue should anything go wrong.

Waiver & Risk Management:

As you know, outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, crevasses, rockfall, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in one of our courses or trips.
