Toba Traverse

The Toba Traverse is a unique, multi-modal exploratory trip, ideal for anyone with a keen sense of adventure!

Every year we like to organize a new and exciting adventure somewhere on the South Coast and for 2025 we're going to do a route we're calling the Toba Traverse. Most of these trips end up being absolutely epic but, as with any exploratory trip, there's always the risk that it doesn't work out. But that's half the fun of this type of adventure right! These trips offer the opportunity to explore areas of the west coast that are rarely, if ever, visited with a bunch of like minded people.

The Plan:

The idea would be to get a heli drop on Mt. Little Toba, near the headwaters of the Toba Inlet, after dropping a food cache along the way. From there we would have 4 days of hiking, scrambling, climbing and mountaineering a long series of ridges and glaciers following the height of land. We will be looking down at the Rims river on one side and Clendenning Provincial Park on the other. We'll follow the ridgeline all the way to the Sims-Elaho River divide where we will drop down to the river and a cache that was staged there prior to the trip. After a nice evening sitting around a fire with a cold beer and some fresh food we would get a good nights sleep before the second stage of the trip.

The next morning we would get picked up by a whitewater raft for a float down the river for about 15km. Then, before we hit a section of rapids we would stop at a gravel bar, grab the bikes from the waiting truck (and drop al our gear) before hitting the road. Then, while we bike this section of remote forestry road for about 6 km, the raft guide and helper would truck gear around this section of the river. Once past the rapids we would get back in the raft and take them all the way into Squamish.

We have spent some time researching and exploring the route as it's never been done before and it looks like it will work though there will be a few challenges along the way. Ideally we would have 6-8 people on the trip with 2 guides as that will make the best use of the helicopter and rafts. I may get 1 group to stage out of the headwaters of the Jervis Inlet but have to finalize that part of the planning.
