Mt. Assiniboine

This 3 day trip into the beautiful Assiniboine Provincial Park is one of the most popular on the 10 Tallest project.

Mt. Assiniboine

On a clear day the iconic Mt. Assiniboine is visible from all over the SE corner of BC as it towers over the adjacent peaks. Reminiscent of the Matterhorn, the majestic peak of Mt. Assiniboine doesn’t offer an easy route top making the summit all that much more special!

The most common route is up Assiniboine is the North Ridge. This 3,000ft feature is steep and intimidating but not too technically difficult at a grade of 5.5. Initially, you ascend a series of gullies with short rock bands to reach the ridge crest. This is followed to the infamous ‘Red Band’. Once there you will be climbing fifth class rock for a few hundred feet to reach the corniced summit. The view from the summit absolutely breathtaking on a clear day.

We typically approach the climb from the BC side which offers an amazing hike in and avoids the busier areas of the Park. However, we can also arrange for the more traditional approach via Mt. Shark if that option is preferable.

The Ten Tallest Project:

What is the 10 Tallest Project? Well, technically it’s BC’s 10 Tallest really and the idea is exactly what it sounds like: Climb the 10 highest peaks in BC. Some are easy to reach and not overly difficult while others are quite involved and seldom climbed. Each year, for the next little while, we’ll be offering trips to a few of these peaks.

For more information on the 10 Tallest Project can be found here.
