Callaghan Beacon Bash 2025

It’s been 7 months since we traded our transceivers & shovels for mountain bikes & climbing shoes and it's getting snowy again. It's time to shake the dust off your companion rescue skills and get ready for an amazing season of smashing backcountry powder. So, with that in mind, joins us on January 4th as we host the 1st annual Callaghan Beacon Bash!!! As the name implies it's hosted by our great friends at Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures and it's offered in cooperation at Corvus Snowboarding.

Outline:

When: Saturday January 4th, sessions at 9:00am, 11:30am & 2:00pm
Where: Callaghan's Base at Alexander Falls (Callaghan Rd, Whistler, BC)
Cost: $15/person

Skill Session Layout:

Each of the 2.5 hour sessions will be run by a certified avalanche safety instructor and will cover:

Partner checks refresher
Discussion of signal interference issues and modern best practices to avoid issues
Review of search techniques with modern transceivers from signal search to fine search
Flagging and multi-burial scenario management
Probing techniques

Each session will also have numerous opportunities for people practice their companion rescue skills with feedback from the instructor as well as a self directed practice area. It will be an amazing opportunity to refresh and practice your companion rescue skills with your partners and an avalanche professional in an efficient and fun setting.

What Else is Happening:

Want to test your Barryvox or Pulse? Mammut will have a tester onsite to ensure your transceiver is ready for the season
Representatives from Mammut will also have some of their new Barryvox 2 and 2S transceivers onsite for you to try out
Demo gear is available for anyone that needs it
Join Corvus in the evening at Evo Backcountry for refreshments, a snowpack talk and epis ski and snowboard movies

What about Food and Beverages?

Not to worry, the amazing crew at Callaghan Country has us covered! They'll have some hot chocolate and BBQ available to keep the energy going. The food and drinks will be available by donation to the food bank so be sure to bring some loonies, toonies or maybe some canned goods. Callaghan Country will also be in the house with some music to keep the vibes going.
