We look forward to having you in our AST 2 course. In the meantime we have a bit of homework for you so we can hit the ground running on the field day.
THE PROCESS
Step 1: The Waiver
Outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in the course. So, hit the link below and review, sign and submit the waiver. Once done come back here to complete the rest of the steps.
Step 2: The Online Course
Our AST 2 starts with an online course that covers all the AST 1 material as a refresher followed by some in-person classroom discussion and the field training. The online portion, can be accessed by clicking on the button and following the below instructions:
- Click on “Buy $85.00”
- Enter your information
- At checkout click on “Have a coupon”

- That will bring the cost to $0 and you’re good to go
Step 3: Gear List
Be sure to read over the gear list in advance of the trip so that you have time to grab anything you might need. We have Avy Kits for sale at a great price and rentals if you’re not ready to buy. If you requested one when you enrolled in the course your instructor will bring it to the meeting point for you. Step 4: Field Day Prep
Organizing & Sharing Rides: There can be limited parking at the trailhead so car pooling is recommended. There’s lots of parking at the meeting point and so everyone can get organized there.
Chain up! BC Parks requires that every vehicle, no matter the conditions, put chains on at the lower parking lot. So if don’t already have a set, be sure to pick some up before the course. They can be purchased at Canadian Tire for about $100.
