Rock Rescue Clinic

BlackSheep Adventure Sports’ Rock Rescue Clinic – All the skills you’ll need to know if $h#t goes sideways.

Rock Rescue Clinic

BlackSheep's Rock Rescue Clinic is ideal for anyone that's climbing more than a single pitch. Why a single pitch you ask? Basically because you can't just lower your climbing partner to the ground when something goes wrong. Could you deal with the technical aspects of rescuing your climbing partner on a multi-pitch rock or alpine climb? Say they fell when leading a traverse and are now hanging on the end of the rope and not responding to your shouts? How about something a bit simpler, you just need to raise your buddy that slipped pulling a roof and can’t get back on the climb? Despite good intentions there are always things that can go wrong when on the wall or in the alpine and there’s nothing worse than that sense of helplessness you get when you don’t know what to do or how to help.

Rock RescueOur Rock Rescue clinic is designed to give you the tools to help yourself and/or your climbing partner if something goes wrong in the vertical world. A must-have course for any active rock climber or alpine climber that will allow you to tackle climbs in a safe, secure and be self-sufficient manner.

Topics covered include: Escaping a belay, load transfers, raises, lowers, tandem rappels, counterbalance rappels, rope ascending and more. This course can also be taken as a skills refresher because rescue skills have a shelf life, gear and techniques are always changing and of course there's always more to learn!

Waiver & Risk Management:

As you know, outdoor activities involve numerous hazards including, but not limited to, avalanches, crevasses, rockfall, slips and falls, equipment failure, poor weather, etc. And while we do our best to anticipate and mitigate these hazards we cannot completely eliminate them. So, as with anything fun, you will be required to sign our Participant Release to take part in one of our courses or trips.

8:30am: Meet at the Squamish Adventure Center near the Ropes Course to sign waivers

9:00am: Walk to a local crag for the day

4:00am: Back at the Adventure Center to wrap up the course
